Purportless questioning of the imposter’s soul, by Britta Benson

For a few weeks in a row now, I have used Sammi Cox’s Weekend Writing Prompts. I enjoy the challenge tremendously. I guess, as someone who regularly thinks up prompts for other people for my writing group, The Procrastinators, it feels really nice to be prompted by somebody else for a change.

This week, the prompt word is ‘purport’, the word count 64. Here’s the link to Sammi’s page in case you want to check out details: https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/20204174/posts/3883707262

I was a little stuck, when I read the word, so I did a bit of research and came across the the expression ‘purportless questions’, which immediately struck a chord with me. Here’s my 64 word poem.

Purportless questioning of the imposter’s soul

Painstakingly laying out my claim. Again. I belong.

Understand, this is my finest, Sunday best.

Rest assured, spores of doubt will always find fertile ground.

Patience, your virtue, not mine. Spectres mushroom, stick.

Offerings to the void. Latest of late. Delete, delete.

Ridiculous scenes. I lie to my mirror, believe.

Then traverse in fury, what cannot be crossed.
