Here’s my response to The Procrastinators’ Sunday Writing Prompts. Theme this week: ‘Affairs of the heart’. Prompt 1: Heart of Stone. Here’s a link to the post: https://theprocrastinators58220236.wordpress.com/2022/07/25/sunday-writing-prompts-affairs-of-the-heart/
I liked the concept of a heart of stone. Tempting. Mine is mush. Soft mush, with more flaws than I would like, but hey ho, it’s my drum, my rhythm, the one one I’ve got and I look after it as best I can.
Heart of stone
Volcanic.
Complex memento of past eruptions,
stories of fire,
the force of creation.
Fine grained pumice,
containing clasts of unashamed otherness,
crystals and voids,
secrets, forever safe
in my rock solid core.
I particularly like “clasts of unashamed otherness”! I think we have had far too many hearts of stone and are sadly in need of unashamed otherness.

Thanks, Peter. I like ‘clasts of unashamed otherness’ too, learned the word ‘clasts’ off of Wikipedia when researching volcanoes. Loved the word, had to write a poem with it!
