Synaesthesia, or: What colour is Tuesday?

Here’s my response to this week’s W3 poetry challenge set by Poet of the Week, Musisopsis ( Theme: Synaesthesia. Form: Dizain.

I thought this would be easy for me. You can read about my problems with this particular challenge in today’s post on Britta’s Blog – Letters from Scotland ( Here’s what I eventually came up with.

Phew! Sometimes, the things we know best are the most difficult to describe.

Synaesthesia, or: What colour is Tuesday?

Squatter, stubborn, and part of me.

Not tidal. Kaleidoscope. Sings.

Intuitions of certainty.

Three’s got wings. Of course, she’s got wings.

Tuesday’s tang, lemon yellow. Stings.

Two plus two equals pre dawn blue,

hint of cello. I echo. You

connect names, pink, jaggy, shrill, west,

merge puzzle pieces, voice of dew.

Interesting friend, or awkward guest?

  1. You did not disappoint! This is such an accurate description of what goes on behind the public face. I’ve made peace so more an awkward friend and an interesting guest! The Dizain is so silky! And it tastes good!

    1. Thank you very much for your lovely comment, Valerie. Much appreciated. And thanks for choosing the Dizain. Never heard of it before! I like the W3 challenge for pushing me out of my poetic comfort zone.
