Help!

Some of you may know, that I have been invited to be the featured reader at a poetry event in January. This is of course great news. Here’s the tricky thing: For the notice on their website, they need a picture of me – okay, that, I can do – and a poem. One. See the problem? One poem to summarize my poetry. A sample, but of course, the best, the poem of all poems. THE ONE.

Help! Which one???

I’m not really too scared about the reading. I get twenty, thirty minutes to read a selection. I can basically give the audience a brief tour of all the types of poetry I do. That’s okay. But how, HOW???, can I choose the one, the only poem to feature in the advertising spiel on their website?

It’s not as though I am a known poet. So I need to pick a piece that will make people want to listen to more. Most of the poems I like best are rather morbid, melancholy affairs. I write a lot about grief. Hey, fancy a cheery poetry reading about grief??? Anyone???

I like to think that even my most sombre work has a subtle, optimistic, even grateful undertone… Well, that’s what I think. Not sure if anyone else would agree.

Those of you who’ve been reading my poems for a while, can you please point me towards one that may do the trick?

My gut feeling is to take a piece I have written recently. I do like ‘Your voice knew’, my response to the W3 poetry challenge on The Sceptic’s Kaddish.

I have no idea. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS: I’ll post my daily poem later. Just wanted to get this out there first. Thanks for reading this far. Much, much appreciated.
